Ballet

Following the BBODance Ballet syllabus, classes combine imaginative storytelling with carefully structured exercises that nurture rhythm, musicality, and expression. Alongside developing coordination, balance, and posture, students also gain an appreciation for the artistry of ballet—building confidence, creativity, and stage presence in a fun and supportive environment.

The Royal Ballet School

Affiliated Teacher Assessment Programme

We are proud to share that Miss Anne and Miss Bev are currently trainee Royal Ballet School Affiliate Teachers, undertaking specialist training through the Affiliate Training and Assessment Programme (ATAP).

The Royal Ballet School is recognised worldwide as a leader in ballet education, training exceptional dancers for The Royal Ballet, Birmingham Royal Ballet, and other leading companies across the globe. Through ATAP, the School extends its renowned System of Training to recreational dance teachers, raising the standard of ballet teaching and opening up new opportunities for students everywhere.

What this means for our dancers:

* A world-class foundation – students will master classical ballet vocabulary and develop strong, safe technique.

* Dance as an art form – classes will include ballet appreciation, exposure to repertoire, and opportunities to explore choreography and performance.

* Exclusive resources & opportunities – through a direct link with The Royal Ballet companies, students will gain access to unique materials and experiences not available elsewhere.

* A lifelong love of dance – ATAP is designed not only to build technical skill but also to foster artistry, creativity, and enjoyment.

Tap

Our youngest tappers are introduced to the exciting world of rhythm and sound through playful, imaginative exercises. At this stage, children learn to coordinate simple steps with musical beats, developing listening skills, timing, and a strong sense of rhythm.

Following the structured BBODance Tap syllabus, classes lay the foundation for correct tap technique while encouraging creativity, expression, and confidence. With plenty of fun, energy, and opportunities to explore movement through sound, these classes give children a joyful first experience of tap dance and prepare them for future progression.

Acro

Our youngest acrobats are introduced to the exciting world of movement through a fun and safe exploration of fundamental skills. As children develop strength, coordination, and flexibility they start to refine their Acro technique.

Classes focus on rolling, balancing, and building the confidence to try new skills, progressing towards cartwheels and other tricks. By encouraging a broad exploration of movement, we help students grow in body awareness, resilience, and creativity, giving them a strong base for both Acro and dance.

Contemporary

Our Contemporary classes follow the Rambert Grades syllabus, offering progressive training that is firmly rooted in professional practice. Students go beyond technical foundations to explore the artistry and individuality that contemporary dance celebrates.

Through the study of professional repertory works, dancers gain insight into the styles and creative approaches of internationally renowned choreographers, building performance skills and a deeper understanding of contemporary technique. Alongside this, students develop their own creative voice through choreographic tasks, composition, and improvisation, learning to generate original movement and refine their artistry.

With a focus on expression, collaboration, and individuality, Rambert Grades encourages dancers to see themselves not only as performers but as emerging dance artists. These classes challenge and inspire students, equipping them with transferable skills such as creativity, resilience, and confidence, while nurturing a lifelong passion for contemporary dance.

Musical Theatre

Our Musical Theatre classes give young performers the perfect chance to shine by combining singing, dancing, and acting in one fun-filled class. At this level, children explore movement, rhythm, and storytelling through songs and simple routines that spark imagination and build confidence. They are introduced to stagecraft skills such as projecting their voices, using expression, and performing as part of a group. With an emphasis on creativity and play, these classes help children develop strong foundations in performance while nurturing a love of the stage.

Street Dance

Our Street Dance classes are full of energy, style, and creativity—perfect for dancers who want to express themselves through dynamic movement and powerful performance. Classes explore a range of commercial and urban dance styles, building confidence, rhythm, and stage presence while encouraging individuality and freedom of expression.

As students progress, they also begin to develop stronger technical foundations with the help of Rosina Andrews’ Leaps and Turns techniques. These exercises focus on improving elevation, control, and precision, giving dancers the tools to perform exciting tricks and turns safely and effectively within their routines.

Street Dance at Sarah Anne Westcott Dance Studios blends the artistry of performance with the discipline of technique—helping students grow as versatile, confident dancers ready to shine on stage.

Adult Classes

At Sarah Anne Westcott Dance Studios, our Adult Dance Classes provide the perfect opportunity to stay active, healthy, and creative in a welcoming and supportive environment.

We have two classes at our Minehead studios, adult ballet and adult tap. Whether you’re taking your very first steps in dance, rediscovering a childhood passion, or looking to challenge yourself further, you are more than welcome to come along.

Dance is proven to support both physical and mental health, helping to improve balance, coordination, posture, and flexibility while also reducing stress and boosting mood. Many of our exercises draw on techniques recommended in physiotherapy, making them safe, low-impact, and highly beneficial for long-term wellbeing. Beyond fitness, our classes offer the joy of music, movement, and connection, an uplifting way to improve confidence, relieve tension, and nurture creativity.
